U.S. Cancer Survivor Population Nears 12 Million

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute reported the number of cancer survivors living in the United States reached 11.7 million in 2007. The National Cancer Institute is a division of the National Institutes of Health.

Researchers documented a notable increase in the survivor population since 1971, when 3 million individuals were cancer survivors. By 2001, the total had grown to 9.8 million.
