Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Douglas & Elbert Counties Until 10:30 PM MDT

Residents in east central Douglas County and northwestern Elbert County must seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 10:30 PM MDT tonight, September 20.

The National Weather Service in Denver issued this warning at 9:52 PM MDT. A severe thunderstorm was located over Ponderosa Park, approximately 29 miles southeast of Denver, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph and half-dollar-sized hail.

Impacted areas include eastern Parker, Elizabeth, Kiowa, Ponderosa Park, and The Pinery. The public has reported half-dollar-sized hail near Ponderosa Park at 9:46 PM. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, and wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees is possible.

All individuals in the affected areas are advised to seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm has already produced large hail. Remain indoors until the warning expires.
