Building & Planning Department
The Building and Planning Department is housed in the Public Services building and is comprised of Building, Planning and Code Enforcement.
Building
The Building Department administers the requirements of the Florida Building Code including plans review and site inspections and is staff to the Examining Board. The Department reviews, permits and inspects structures as small as a shed and as large as a high-rise condominium. Additional responsibilities include the issuance of addresses and the permitting of special events, temporary uses, signs and banners.

Planning
The Planning Department implements the goals, objectives and policies of the Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map through regulations found in the Land Development Code and the Zoning Map Series. Some of the Department's duties include review of site development plans, signs, variances, rezonings and annexations, monitoring the available capacity of public facilities, code enforcement, tree protection, turtle lighting enforcement, Planning Board and Tree Board administration, and recommending updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code.

Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement is responsible for compliance with various City Ordinances. Most of the activities involve overgrown vegetation, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles/trailers, deteriorated structures, foreclosed properties, green pools, signs, business licensing, and turtle lighting.
