4ocean Challenges Eckerd Students to Cut Plastic Waste
Eckerd College hosted 4ocean on April 2, where more than 140 students, faculty, and staff pledged to reduce single-use plastic. The nonprofit committed to removing one pound of plastic for each pledge signed.

Deputy Rescues Father and Son from Rip Current at Bean Point
Deputy Matthew Daugherty swam 20 yards through dangerous currents at Bean Point to rescue a father and son swept away on a boogie board in August. He received the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Deputy of the Month award for the rescue.
