United Methodist General Conference Delayed Again; Hybrid Option Proposed
Dear Friends in Florida,
Dear Friends in Florida, As you know, the General Conference of The United Methodist Church has been delayed several times due to the pandemic and related travel restrictions. The Commission on the General Conference has been working diligently to find a way forward that is both safe and inclusive. At their recent meeting, the Commission voted to delay the General Conference once again, this time until 2026. However, they also approved a proposal for a hybrid General Conference that would allow for both in-person and virtual participation. This hybrid option would allow more people to participate in the General Conference than ever before, including those who are unable to travel to the United States. The details of the hybrid General Conference are still being worked out, but the Commission is committed to making it a fair and equitable process for all. I will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available. I know that this news is disappointing for many of you. The General Conference is an important time for our denomination to come together to discern God’s will for our future. However, I am confident that we will find a way to move forward together, even in the midst of these challenging circumstances. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I am grateful for your continued commitment to The United Methodist Church. Blessings, Bishop David Alan Harvey
