Palm Beach County officials invite residents to a public meeting Friday, Oct. 2, to discuss the future of the Agricultural Reserve. The area stretches from Wellington's outskirts toward the Glades.
County Commissioner Maria Sachs will join county officials to host the session. The meeting aims to gather input on continued agricultural production and development within this unique area. Officials clarified that discussions will broadly cover development, affordable housing, transportation infrastructure and future agricultural uses, countering rumors of a specific project discussion.
The meeting has a capacity of 300 attendees.
The Agricultural Reserve's purpose is to preserve farmland and wetlands, supporting agriculture, environmental resources and open space. Current land use limits agriculture, conservation, low-density residential development and non-residential uses supporting farmworkers and Ag Reserve Tier residents.
Specific projects within the Ag Reserve follow a formal approval process, including reviews by county Planning, Zoning and Building staff before potential county commission consideration.
