Douglas County Unveils Work Zone Safety Mascot

Douglas County Public Works introduced Doug Glass, a new mascot designed to educate residents about construction work zones and the county's 2050 Transportation Plan, at a May 16 event in Castle Rock.
Doug Glass will appear on social media, job sites, and county alerts to promote work zone safety and explain how the transportation plan affects commuters. The plan prioritizes crash reduction, trail and bike infrastructure expansion, and transit access for older adults and residents without cars.
The mascot's introduction coincided with National Work Zone Awareness Week. In 2023, work zone crashes killed 899 people nationwide and 82 roadway workers, according to the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse.
Residents can track local road work through Douglas County's Cone Zone webpage, email alerts, Nextdoor, Facebook, and X. State highway updates are available at cotrip.org.
