Annual Area Activities

Annual Area Activities Txoko Ona Basque Dance TxokThe annual Basque Dance held at the Txoko Ona Basque Center in Homedale is held on the 2nd Saturday in March each year. In the past years, this dance had been held at the old Armory building. It has now been held at the new Txoko Ona building on South Main Street in Homedale, and the Badiola Arena on Hwy 95. Along with the historic and traditional dances performanced by all the age groups of Basque dancers, there are live music performances all evening. Chorizos, hot dogs, pop, beer and wine are the usual food fare at the event. There are also silent and live auctions going on throughout the evening as a fund raiser for the Basque Center. It's a great time to buy some homemade flan, chorizos or Basque bread! Lots of socializing and even a game of Muse (Basque card game) or horse shoes might be found. A great family event to which the entire community is invited! Photo Credit: Tarah Uranga Easter Egg Hunt The Annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Homedale Chamber of Commerce, is held the Saturday before Easter each year. Sundance Park Located on the south side of town on 1st Street West, Sundance Park provides baseball and soccer fields. It is the site of many baseball, softball, and soccer tournaments in the area. Ample parking and on-site concessions make Sundance Park a fun family destination. Wine Region On its way to the Columbia River and beyond to the Pacific Ocean, the great Snake River of historic and geologic fame winds its way west across southern Idaho, through the town of Homedale, then sharply turns north and continues in that direction for a few hundred miles, marking the border between western Idaho and eastern Oregon. Like so many other great rivers of wine-growing regions around the world, the Snake creates a micro- climate that has demonstrated its suitability for grape growing, despite its higher elevation and arid landscape. Not only does the river provide irrigation water for otherwise dry lands, but the air currents it creates from its flowing water mass help temper the extremes of winter and summer temperatures. Is it any wonder the majority of Idaho's wineries are scattered throughout Idaho's Snake River Valley. The long-term growing of vineyards and growth in the number of local wineries turning those grapes into wine is what set the stage for what is now Idaho's first appellation, the Snake River American Viticultural Area. Homedale is in the heart of this up and coming wine region. With over a dozen wineries and tasting rooms within just a few miles, Homedale is a great jumping-off point for your wine tasting tours. The local economy is also poised to benefit from this growing industry. Golf Courses Golf Courses Two area golf courses offer great recreational opportunities.
