Red Flag Warning: High Fire Danger for Goose Creek, Raft River Valley
A Red Flag Warning is active today from 2 PM to 8 PM MDT for Goose Creek, Raft River Valley, Southern Sawtooth NF, and Twin Falls BLM south of the Snake River due to high winds and low humidity, increasing fire danger.
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for parts of our community today, October 9, from 2:00 PM MDT until 8:00 PM MDT. Residents in Fire Weather Zone 427, which includes the Goose Creek and Raft River Valley, the Southern Sawtooth National Forest, and the Twin Falls BLM land south of the Snake River, should exercise extreme caution.
The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued this warning due to a combination of gusty winds and low relative humidity. Southwest winds are expected to reach 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 12 percent, creating critical fire weather conditions.
A Red Flag Warning indicates that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. This includes relative humidity at or below 15 percent combined with wind gusts of at least 25 mph in mountainous areas or 30 mph on the Snake Plain, or other high impact events deemed critical by fire management agencies.
Residents are advised to prevent outdoor fires and avoid activities that could spark a blaze. Report any fires immediately to emergency services.
