Wind Advisory Issued: Gusts Up To 50 MPH Expected Through Friday Morning
A Wind Advisory is in effect for West Slopes Sacramento Mountains, Sacramento Mountains Above 7500 Feet, and East Central Tularosa Basin/Alamogordo until 8 AM MDT Friday, October 2, with gusts up to 50 mph expected, potentially causing tree damage and power outages.
Residents in the West Slopes Sacramento Mountains Below 7500 Feet, Sacramento Mountains Above 7500 Feet, and East Central Tularosa Basin/Alamogordo areas are advised to secure outdoor objects and exercise extreme caution when driving due to a Wind Advisory in effect until 8:00 AM MDT Friday, October 2nd.
The National Weather Service (NWS) El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM has issued this advisory, effective from 9:32 PM MDT on October 1st. Northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph are expected.
Areas specifically impacted include the west-facing slopes of the Sacramento Mountains, eastern areas of Alamogordo and Tularosa, sections along the Sunspot Highway, and along the west side of US-82.
The NWS warns that recent heavy rainfall has saturated the ground, which may lead to an increased risk of tree damage and potential power outages. Gusty winds will also blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should be especially cautious, as strong winds can make driving difficult.
