Sarasota Sheriff's Office Runs for Special Olympics
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Friday, April 17, running from Gulf Gate Pavilion to Bay Plaza along U.S. 41.
Sheriff's deputies and Special Olympics athletes started at 8 a.m. and proceeded north along U.S. 41, concluding the run at Bay Plaza on Bay Road. Motorists experienced traffic delays between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
The torch relay spans 60 Florida counties over 1,500 miles. Law enforcement officers carry the torch from the end of March through the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games.
