2 weeks agoPrescribed Burn Planned for Herky Huffman/Bull Creek WMA in Osceola County
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) plans to conduct a prescribed burn at the Herky Huffman/Bull Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Osceola County between Monday, May 6 and Friday, May 10. The burn is anticipated to take one day to complete and will cover approximately 850 acres.
FWC land managers conduct prescribed burns on WMAs to improve the quality of wildlife habitats and reduce the risk of wildfires. Prescribed burns mimic natural fire cycles, which are essential for maintaining healthy ecosystems. These controlled burns help to reduce the buildup of hazardous fuels, such as dry vegetation, which can fuel wildfires.
During the burn, visitors to the WMA may experience temporary smoke in the area. FWC staff will be on-site to monitor the burn and ensure public safety. For more information about prescribed burns and their benefits, visit MyFWC.com/ आग.
