Plainfield Township Downtown Stoplight & Library Move 2024
Plainfield Township will replace its downtown traffic signal mid-summer as the district library moves to a new location in mid-June.
The Michigan Department of Transportation will remove the existing stoplight at the downtown intersection and install new poles with cross-arm lights facing each lane. The work will take about two weeks and disrupt downtown traffic. MDOT is replacing four other intersections across Iosco County through early fall.
The library will move after Spectrum completes fiber optic installation. Township officials seek volunteers to pack and unpack books; the township will move shelving, desks, and furniture. Contact Supervisor Fred Lewis or call Cheryl at the library to volunteer.
The historical museum will relocate later in summer or early fall, depending on weather and preparation of the new site.
The township removed several trees downtown that obstructed sight lines for eastbound trucks and conflicted with the new stoplight configuration. Officials will install a bench and planter at one location and grind the stumps at all sites.
The garden club commissioned a local artist to create a sculpture for the gazebo area, with installation planned for this summer. Contact Bev Mason at 989-305-8823 for information about the independently funded project.
The historical commission will host Phil Naud on September 19 at 2 p.m. discussing Civilian Conservation Corps camps in Iosco County. An April program on the Edmund Fitzgerald drew over 70 attendees from across the state.
The Community Center and Eagle Point Plaza offer memberships for pickleball, yoga, cardio drumming, and fitness training. The historical museum is open Tuesdays. Lewis can be reached Monday through Friday at 989-728-2811, 989-984-7073, or [email protected].
