Ormond Beach Property & Evidence Retrieval Now By Appointment

Ormond Beach Requires Appointments to Retrieve Property and Evidence

Ormond Beach residents must schedule an appointment with the Property and Evidence Unit to retrieve property or evidence held by the city.

Before scheduling, unit staff verify with the assigned officer, detective, or State Attorney's Office that property is eligible for release. Several factors determine eligibility: the item type, how the department obtained it, and whether the owner can legally possess it.

To schedule a pickup, call the Property and Evidence Unit with your case report number ready. If someone other than the owner retrieves the property, they must present a notarized, written authorization from the owner. Both the owner and any designee must bring a valid government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license, state ID card, or passport.

Firearms face additional restrictions. The unit will not release firearms to convicted felons or others prohibited by law from possessing them. Before release, staff conduct a criminal history check through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Firearm Eligibility System. Firearms cannot go to anyone convicted under Florida Statute 790.07 or misdemeanor domestic violence offenses under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9). Those picking up firearms must contact the unit before their appointment so background checks, which may take 30 minutes or longer, can be completed.

The unit may also restrict release if the item is evidence in an active or pending case or subject to a court-ordered Domestic Violence Injunction.

The Property and Evidence Unit operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call or email [email protected]. Calling ahead prevents delays.

Under Florida law, email addresses are public records. Do not send email to this address if you do not want yours released in response to a public records request. Contact the unit by phone or mail instead.
