Tropical Storm Warning for Eastern Orleans: Life-Threatening Storm Surge Possible
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Eastern Orleans, with a life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet possible through Saturday morning; residents should shelter in place if not evacuated.
Eastern Orleans Parish, including Lake Catherine, is under a Tropical Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans LA, effective October 9 at 4:00 PM CDT. Residents are advised to shelter against life-threatening storm surge.
A storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters away from surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.
Wind speeds are forecast to be below tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 40 mph. While little additional wind impact is expected, officials are assessing current impacts.
