Storm Surge Warning for Eastern Orleans, Life-Threatening Flooding Possible

Residents in Eastern Orleans, specifically Lake Catherine, are under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning issued today, October 9, at 10:02 AM CDT by the National Weather Service New Orleans. Life-threatening storm surge of 3 to 5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning.
Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. All residents within the affected area must remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside. Conditions may still be gusty with peak winds of 25-35 mph and gusts to 50 mph, but sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force. Little to no additional significant rainfall or tornado activity is expected.
