Hayden Panettiere Death: Accidental Overdose Ruled

Actor Hayden Panettiere died from the toxic effects of multiple substances, including fentanyl, officials confirmed Tuesday. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death on September 22, 2026, more than a month after the actress was found deceased.

Panettiere, 36, died Aug. 16 in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner’s office ruled her death resulted from a combination of fentanyl and its byproduct, 4-ANPP, along with alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office released no further autopsy details. A family publicist stated the investigation is ongoing. The Greenville Police Department also confirmed its investigation into Panettiere’s death continues.

Preliminary autopsy results released last month found no signs of trauma. First responders found Panettiere in cardiac arrest, and resuscitation efforts failed. Police found no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

Panettiere was known for her roles as Claire Bennet on “Heroes” and Juliette Barnes on “Nashville.” She also appeared in “Remember the Titans,” “I Love You, Beth Cooper,” and two “Scream” films.
