South College Orlando graduates 300 healthcare students in largest ceremony

South College Orlando graduated nearly 300 healthcare students on June 12 at Faith Church Orlando, the largest commencement ceremony in the campus's history.

More than 150 graduates earned an Associate of Science in Nursing or Health Science (Pre-Nursing). Approximately 20 earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science or Nursing. Others completed programs in Radiography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology, Health Science (Pre-Pharmacy), Medical Assisting, or Practical Nursing.

Radiography graduate Zion Alexander, one of two Florida students selected for the American Society of Radiologic Technologists student leadership development program, spoke during the ceremony. "Radiography is basically the eyes of medicine," Alexander said. "In highly critical situations, radiography plays a vital role on the front lines by helping physicians better understand what may be happening within a patient's body."

Cyd Valle balanced single motherhood and work-study employment while completing the nursing program, passing the NCLEX exam on her first attempt. She now works full-time at a Central Florida hospital. Bailee Gourley lost her stepmother during the nursing program but completed all courses on her first attempt.

Judy Colorado, assistant vice president and chief nursing officer for Orlando Health, delivered the keynote address. Colorado was among 21 nurses worldwide recognized at the United Nations in 2019 for global impact in healthcare.

South College Chancellor Steve South commended graduates for their dedication. The Orlando campus opened in November 2021 at 6649 Westwood Blvd., Suite 100, and offers healthcare programs at the certificate, associate, bachelor's, and master's levels.
