James Williams, Vice-Chair Commissioner James Williams was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in November of 2012. Commissioner Williams was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Lake County since the age of 5. Commissioner Williams graduated from Lakeview High School in 1974. He then attended Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) in Klamath Falls and earned an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering. After earning his degree from OIT, he returned to Lake County and worked for the Lake County Road Department for 5 years. Commissioner Williams then changed professions and began a 20-year career with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Following his retirement from the Sheriff’s Office, Commissioner Williams worked in the private business sector for 10 years, which included working for a large construction company. For 3 years of that time, Commissioner Williams was contracted by the County as the Project Manager for the Lake County Economic Development Project. Commissioner Williams serves on the following Boards and Committees: Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) - Vice President and Public Lands Steering Committee Basin-Tulelake RCD County Court Emergency Preparedness Lake County Dispatch Lake County Public Safety (Board Chair) Lake County Rural Housing Lake County School District #7 Lakeview Interagency Fire Committee Lakeview Watershed Council Local Public Safety Coordinating Council Oregon Community Development Block Grant (OCDBG) Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Oregon Joint Chiefs South Central Oregon Economic Development District (SCOEDD) - Board Chair South Central Oregon Regional Solutions Southern Oregon Forest Restoration Group (SOFRG) Workforce Investment Board (WIB) Commissioner Williams is currently serving his third term and his current term expires December 31, 2024.
