OAKLAND, FL — The Town of Oakland did not conduct required tests for trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids in July 2026, violating state drinking water monitoring requirements.
The town must sample for these disinfection byproducts at least once yearly. Both contaminants can cause liver and kidney damage or increase cancer risk if consumed in excess over many years.
Town officials collected the overdue samples on August 5, 2026. Results showed the water met state standards.
