Hurricane Isaias made landfall as a high-end Category 2 storm late Friday near Destin, Florida, before rapidly weakening into a post-tropical cyclone. The storm brought severe wind gusts exceeding 115 mph, heavy rain, and life-threatening storm surge to northern Florida.

As of Saturday morning, the system was located about 25 miles south-southwest of Montgomery, Alabama, and moving north at approximately 14 mph. Maximum sustained winds had dropped to 35 mph. The National Hurricane Center discontinued all coastal storm surge and tropical storm warnings.

While the immediate threat to the coast lessened, outer bands pushed significant coastal flooding, high tides, and flash flooding further south into the Tampa Bay area and Sarasota County. Destructive winds battered coastal cities, with gusts up to 118 mph near Destin and 102 mph at Pensacola City Hall. Hundreds of thousands of residents lost power across northern Florida and southern Alabama.

In the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend regions, Destin experienced heavy storm surge that damaged beach boardwalks and flooded low-lying streets with 2 to 3 feet of ocean water. Flash flood emergencies were declared in Okaloosa and Escambia counties.

Sarasota County saw powerful Gulf surge overwhelm rock barriers at Blind Pass Beach, washing seawater and sand over Manasota Key Road. Officials closed the road between the Charlotte County line and north of Blind Pass Beach Park, restricting access to local traffic.

Rainbands swept across Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Bradenton, causing localized street flooding, beach erosion, and event cancellations. Emergency responders rescued stranded motorists from high water on low-lying coastal roads.

Inland flooding remains a risk as Isaias moves across Alabama and into the Tennessee Valley by Sunday, threatening flash floods across eastern Alabama, Georgia, and eastern Tennessee. Isolated tornadoes are possible Saturday afternoon across northern Georgia, the eastern Florida Panhandle, and parts of the Carolinas.
