Transit (TheBus) Hernando County Transit Services offers three types of public transportation services: fixed-route service (TheBus), ADA demand response service, and Transportation Disadvantage service. New Bus Routes 10 and 11 TheBus is launching two new routes, Route 10 and Route 11, on May 4, 2026. Route 10: - Route 10 will operate as a loop connecting the Walmart on SR 50 and the Publix on County Line Road. This route provides vital north-south service through the East Spring Hill area, linking neighborhoods with essential services and enhancing mobility within Spring Hill. - Major Corridors include Anderson Snow Road, Elgin Boulevard, Deltona Boulevard, Cortez Boulevard, and Barclay Avenue. - This route serves several popular destinations including, but not limited to, Publix at Avalon, Anderson Snow Park Splash Pad, the Walmart Neighborhood Market, and the Walmart on Cortez. Route 11: - Route 11 will also operate as a loop, running between the Walmart on SR 50 and the Publix in Sugarmill Woods in Citrus County. This route provides two-way service along the Commercial Way (US-19) corridor and extends transit access beyond Hernando County. - Major Corridors include Commercial Way on US-19, Hexam Road, Sunshine Grove Road, and connections to Cortez Boulevard. - This route offers seamless regional connectivity, making cross-county travel more convenient. Route 9 - The Mermaid Route TheBus is excited to introduce its newest service in Hernando County — Route 9: The Mermaid Route! Hop on, relax, and let the Mermaid Route take you to the coast! Whether you're heading to the beach, enjoying the waterfront parks, or exploring the beautiful coastline, Route 9 offers a stress-free and reliable ride from Walmart on US 19 all the way to Alfred McKethan Pine Island Park. This scenic route makes it easier than ever to enjoy Florida's Adventure Coast's coastal gems: - Direct service to Pine Island Park, Roger's Park, Bayport, and Jenkins Creek - Park-and-ride option at Linda Pedersen Park - Easy access along beautiful Shoal Line Blvd. - Affordable, accessible, and eco-friendly transportation Fares and Service Details A standard one-way fare is $1.25. Exact change is required before boarding as bus drivers do not carry change for safety reasons. Passengers are required to pay cash, present a transfer ticket or token, or show a current pass or ADA Eligibility Photo Identification Card upon boarding. Service animals are permitted to accompany their owner on TheBus. Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an individual 16 years or older. Children over the age of 12 may ride alone but should carry identification and follow established safety guidelines. All fixed-route buses are equipped with bike racks on the front of the vehicle. For safety reasons, riders cannot wave at the bus to stop and must board at a designated bus stop. TheBus currently connects with Pasco County at the Scheer Commerce Center located on Emerald Beach Blvd. between US 19 and Bachmann Avenue. TheBus serves both the North Campus in Brooksville and the Spring Hill Campus of Pasco-Hernando State Community College on US19. The fixed-route currently operates on 60 minute headways. The Hernando County BOCC's fixed-route (TheBus) and ADA demand response service are funded by grants from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and a required County match of local funding.
