Click to view current traffic responses & crashes Combating Traffic Violations The Hernando County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit will increase traffic enforcement efforts on several main roads throughout the county during the month of MARCH. During this operation, speed enforcement will be conducted by deputies using both marked and unmarked vehicles. Additionally, deputies will be conducting both DUI and narcotics enforcement. As a reminder, please follow these four major steps to ensure your safety while driving. Obey speed limits Buckle up Don't drink and drive Don't text and drive Mental Distractions Even with your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel, mental distractions dangerously affect drivers behind the wheel. Mild Danger - Example: Listening to the radio or an audio book Moderate Danger - Example: Talking on a hand-held phone or a hands-free phone High Danger - Example: Using voice-activated texting or email feature Sending or receiving a text takes a driver's eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, which at 55 mph is the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field, blind.
