SFWMD Offers Speakers Bureau for Okeechobee County Organizations

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) offers speakers to civic groups, professional organizations, schools and other interested parties throughout its 16-county region. Presentations cover a variety of water resource-related topics. If you are looking for a speaker for your organization, please submit a Speakers Bureau Request Form. We require at least 3 weeks’ notice to schedule a speaker. Please note that speakers are subject to availability. We will do our best to accommodate your request. Topics Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) Lake Okeechobee Water Supply Water Quality Flood Control SFWMD Overview Water Conservation Florida Bay Kissimmee River Restoration Project (KRRP) Minimum Flows and Levels (MFLs) Environmental Resource Permits (ERP) Land Stewardship Climate Change Sea Level Rise To Request a Speaker Complete the Speakers Bureau Request Form. "Special Events Speckled Perch Click here for more information Music Festival Click here for more information Parades Currently the major parades within our city are: - Speckled Perch Parade, usually the second Saturday in March to coincide with the Speckled Perch Festival - Christmas Parade, held in the evenings the second Saturday in December - Cattleman's Parade, held on Labor Day each year - Homecoming Parade for Okeechobee High School, Thursday before Homecoming Game Parade Permit: Though local roadways can be closed with the approval of the City Council, to close State roadways, approval must come from the Department of Transportation. State Roads include SR70 and US HWY 441. They require a closure request submitted to FDOT 45 days in advance of the closure. Use of City Parks and temporary street closures require an application and approval by various departments. Park Use and/or Temporary Street/Sidewalk Closing Form"
