Proposed Regulations Target Vape Flavor Descriptions, Names

Why it matters locally: These proposed federal regulations on vape flavor descriptions could significantly impact the vaping industry in California, including manufacturers and retailers, potentially altering product availability and marketing strategies across the state.

Officials are considering new rules for how companies name and describe vaping product flavors. The proposals aim to restrict names and descriptions perceived to attract young people to nicotine products. The initiative focuses on preventing marketing techniques that may encourage children and adolescents to experiment with vapes. Authorities are consulting with the public on these potential changes to current regulations. This consultation process allows stakeholders and the public to provide feedback on the proposed restrictions. Further details about the specific types of names and flavor descriptions that regulators might restrict have not yet been released. The consultations will help inform the final scope of any new policies.
