City of Waterbury Announces Start of Annual Street Sweeping Program

City of Waterbury Announces Start of Annual Street Sweeping Program The City of Waterbury’s annual residential street sweeping program will begin on Monday, April 13, 2026, weather permitting. Property owners are encouraged to assist in the success of the program by sweeping sidewalks into the immediate gutter line and removing any debris, litter, and leaves. Sand should not be swept into large piles, as this can hinder the efficiency of the sweeping equipment. Beginning April 13, crews will operate in the following areas: Crew One District 6 – Starting in the North End, Bucks Hill, and Wilby areas, continuing south to the Wolcott Street and Lakewood Road areas. Crew Two District 3 – Starting in the Captain Neville Drive, Progress Lane, and upper Scott Road areas. The Department of Public Works will post signage in each district in advance of scheduled sweeping. Residents are strongly encouraged to remove parked vehicles from designated routes prior to the arrival of sweepers. Vehicles that are not removed may be towed at the owner’s expense. Weekly updates will be published in the local newspaper and posted on the City’s website at www.waterburyct.org, where residents can also find a detailed listing of streets by district. Residents may use the Streets_by_District.pdf on the City’s website to identify the district in which their street is located. For additional information, please contact the Department of Public Works.

Superintendent's End-of-Year Update: Buhl School District

Superintendent's End-of-Year Update4 hours ago2 min readDear Buhl School District Community,As the school year officially comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on everything our district has accomplished and express my gratitude to the everyone that makes it all possible.First and foremost, Congratulations to our Class of 2026 graduates! Watching our seniors cross the stage was a proud moment for all of us. They have shown incredible resilience, determination, and spirit, and we cannot wait to see the impact they make on the world. An enormous thank you goes out to our dedicated staff. From our teachers and administrators to our support staff, bus drivers, and custodians, the sheer amount of hard work and heart put into this year has been appreciated. Finally, thank you to our community. Your support, whether attending games, volunteering, or partnering with our schools, is the backbone of our district's success. As we head into the summer, we are already preparing for the upcoming school year. Please review the important district updates, operational changes, and upcoming projects outlined below.Important Update: School Meal Program ChangesFor the upcoming school year, the Buhl School District will no longer be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program, which previously provided free breakfast and lunch to all students. Why this change is happening: The district does not meet the qualifying numbers required to break even on the expenses of this program. Absorbing these costs would deeply impact other vital areas of our district's budget. What you need to do: For the next school year, families will need to transition back to the standard meal program. It is vital that families fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch forms ahead of the new school year to see if your students qualify for free or lower-cost meals.Next Steps: More detailed information and access to these forms will follow before school resumes.Summer & Fall Facility ProjectsWe are committed to maintaining safe, updated spaces for our students and community. Thanks to planned funding, you will see two major projects underway soon:High School Roof Replacement: This major project will take place over the summer months to ensure our high school is secure and weatherproof for the upcoming year. This project is being funded with School Modernization funds.Football Stadium Lights: The replacement of our stadium lights is scheduled to take place following the conclusion of the fall sports season to avoid any disruption to our student-athletes and fans. This project will be paid with school district facilities funds which are designated for facilities and maintenance purposes. 2026/27 School CalendarPlanning ahead? The official 2026/27 school year calendar has been approved and is now available to view and download directly on our district website.Join Our Team: Substitute Teachers NeededThe district is actively seeking substitute teachers for the upcoming school year. Substituting offers a flexible schedule and a great way to support our local students. How to Apply: Applications can be found online through our district employment portal.Questions? For more information regarding requirements and pay, please email [email protected] you again for a wonderful school year. I wish all of our families a safe, happy, and restful summer break!Warm regards,Angie OparnicoSuperintendentBuhl School DistrictBuhl High SchoolBuhl Middle School
