Chipotle Mexican Grill released its original song, "From Ground to Sound," recorded using instruments made from fresh vegetables. The fast-casual chain collaborated with the London Vegetable Orchestra to produce the track in London's iconic Abbey Road Studios Studio Two.
The song features instruments such as corn flutes, jalapeño trumpets, bell pepper horns, avocado pit percussion, lettuce shakers and an onion bass. This project turns real ingredients into the brand's signature sound, drawing a parallel to The Beatles' historic recordings at the same studio.
Fernando Machado, chief brand officer at Chipotle, said, "Real food has always been at the center of Chipotle. What made this worth pursuing was the chance to create a track that felt impossible to separate from Chipotle itself. The instruments, the sound and the story are all rooted in what we do every day."
The three-month project involved extensive experimentation by Chipotle and the five-member London Vegetable Orchestra to ensure the vegetable instruments produced proper notes.
Patrick Johns of the London Vegetable Orchestra described the challenges: "You can carve two identical instruments, but they can respond very differently. Part of the craft is learning not to force an ingredient to sound a certain way but to find the sound that's already there and build the music around it."
Beacon Street Studios created the composition with creative direction from KIDS. "From Ground to Sound" is available on Spotify and Apple Music. A companion film is also available on YouTube.
