Strong Storm Near Cross City: Seek Shelter Indoors Until 5 PM

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for portions of Inland Dixie and Coastal Dixie counties by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. A strong thunderstorm, detected by Doppler radar at 4:28 PM EDT, is currently located near Fowlers Bluff, approximately 12 miles south of Cross City.

This storm is moving southwest at 15 mph and poses a hazard of wind gusts up to 40 mph. The NWS advises that these gusty winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects.

Residents in affected areas, including Horseshoe Point, Suwannee, Horseshoe Beach, Yellow Jacket, and Shired Island, are urged to consider seeking shelter inside a building if outdoors. The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately, September 20, 2026, and is set to expire at 5:00 PM EDT.
