Storm Surge Watch Issued for Coastal Dixie: Life-Threatening Flooding Possible
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, warning of life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, effective Wednesday, October 7, at 2:00 PM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Life-threatening storm surge inundation of 2-4 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Residents in surge-prone areas should immediately begin storm surge flooding preparations. This includes assembling disaster supplies and knowing your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately; failure to do so could result in loss of life.
Significant impacts are possible, including damage to coastal buildings, weakened or washed-out sections of near-shore escape routes, major beach erosion, and moderate damage to marinas and docks. Additional rainfall of 2-4 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to localized flooding. Winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, with gusts up to 30 mph.
