A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, with potential life-threatening flooding; residents should prepare for evacuation and complete flood preparations by Friday morning.

A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. Residents in these areas should prepare for life-threatening storm surge and be ready to evacuate if orders are issued.

The NWS forecasts a potential for 2-4 feet of inundation above ground from storm surge, with the window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. This significant threat includes waves, potential damage to buildings near the coast, and the possibility of near-shore escape routes becoming weakened or washed out. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed before conditions become unsafe. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are given for your area to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Additional rainfall of 1-3 inches is expected, with localized flooding possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Wind speeds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, with gusts up to 30 mph. Tornadoes are not expected.
