Florida Gators Dominate Campbell 52-3

GAINESVILLE – The Florida Gators improved to 2-0 under head coach Jon Sumrall with a decisive 52-3 victory over Campbell on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Vernell Brown III fueled the Gators' offense, accumulating 262 all-purpose yards and scoring three touchdowns. Brown set a program record with 219 punt return yards, including two punt returns for scores. Campbell struggled with possession, punting 10 times and committing two fumbles. The Gators' defense capitalized, securing a turnover on Campbell's final drive.

"Happy for our guys to get a win," Sumrall said. "The goal this week, just like every week, is to be 1-0 at the end of Saturday. We're 1-0 this week, which I'm pleased with." Sumrall highlighted Brown's performance, stating, "VB in the return game came through when it was really clutch with what he did with the ball in his hands on those two punt returns."

After allowing Campbell to score on their opening drive, the Gators' defense adjusted. "I thought defensively did a better job," Sumrall noted. "Once we settled into the rhythm of the game... I thought our guys settled in and played with more confidence at times in the back end." Quarterback Aaron Philo contributed to the offense, completing 16 of 21 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

The Gators will continue their season, aiming to build on this strong start.
