Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Lafayette, Inland Dixie Counties
A strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 40 mph is moving through Lafayette and Inland Dixie counties until 4:30 PM EDT; residents should seek indoor shelter.
Residents in Lafayette and Inland Dixie counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm moving through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 4:30 PM EDT today, October 10, 2026.
At 3:52 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm 12 miles northeast of Steinhatchee, tracking northeast at 45 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could cause tree limbs to fall and unsecured outdoor objects to be blown around.
Areas expected to be impacted include Mayo, Tennille, Cooks Hammock, Hines, Jonesboro, Clara, Grady, San Pedro Junction, and Alton. If you are outdoors in these areas, the NWS advises finding immediate shelter inside a building until the storm passes.
