URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge, Extreme Flooding Expected in Coastal Dixie
Coastal Dixie faces an immediate and extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening surge, extreme flooding rain, and potential tornadoes; residents must shelter in place or evacuate as ordered.
Coastal Dixie residents, including those in Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, face an immediate and extreme threat from a Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning, issued October 10 at 2:07 AM EDT, remains in effect until 10:15 AM UTC today.
Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible, particularly around high tide. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from surge areas. Residents must remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with potential for extreme flooding rain. An additional 1-3 inches of rain is expected, with localized higher amounts, leading to potential widespread rainfall flooding, evacuations, and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A Tornado Watch is also in effect, indicating conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter immediately.
