A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Okaloosa Coastal, including Destin, Eglin AFB, and Fort Walton Beach, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, warns of life-threatening conditions beginning early this afternoon until early Saturday morning.

Residents in surge-prone areas face a potential for 4-7 feet of storm surge above ground. All ordered evacuations should be complete. Those who remain must shelter in a safe location and move to upper floors if water rises.

Hurricane-force winds (65-85 mph with gusts to 105 mph) are expected from early this afternoon until this evening. Extensive property damage, power outages, and impassable roads are anticipated. Move to safe shelter now. Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to major flooding. Several tornadoes are also possible. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
