Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Along Gulf Coast Through Monday Evening
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for coastal areas of Baldwin (AL), Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa (FL) Counties until Monday evening, October 5, 2026, due to dangerous rip currents, as warned by the National Weather Service.
Coastal residents and visitors in Baldwin (AL), Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa (FL) Counties are advised of a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL. This statement is effective immediately, October 2, 2026, at 2:51 AM CDT, and will remain in effect until Monday evening, October 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM CDT.
Dangerous rip currents are expected along the affected coastal areas. Rip currents pose a significant risk, capable of sweeping even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.
The NWS urges beachgoers to exercise extreme caution. If you plan to enter the water, swim only near a lifeguard. Should you find yourself caught in a rip current, the NWS advises relaxing and floating. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
