A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Okaloosa Coastal, including Destin, Eglin AFB, and Fort Walton Beach, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately today, October 8, 2026, at 10:06 AM CDT until 6:15 PM CDT.

This is an Extreme and Immediate threat. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts for surge-prone areas should be completed immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Tropical Storm force winds of 45-55 mph with gusts to 65 mph are expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. There is potential for peak winds of 74 to 110 mph. Residents should plan for considerable wind damage and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Extensive roof damage, mobile home destruction, downed trees, and widespread power outages are possible.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should strongly consider protective actions. The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Manufactured home residents and boaters should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be prepared to shelter quickly.
