Hunters captured an 844-pound, 14-foot alligator, nicknamed 'Snaggletooth,' on Lake Moultrie on September 28. The reptile had been pursued for four years.

The four-man hunting team secured the alligator around 11 p.m. ET during South Carolina's alligator hunting season, which runs from September 12 to October 10.

The team included experienced hunters Cole Poplin and William Ard of Renegade Bowfishing, alongside clients Chris Webb, the tag holder, and his father, Craig Webb.

Poplin, who runs the charter company, spotted the alligator four years ago. "I'm hunting gators every single night, taking clients out every single night. I’ve hunted this gator a lot over the last three or four years," Poplin said. "Four years later, we have a magical night, and he just happened to slip up and make a mistake, and we made it count.".

The capture required three men to lift the alligator from the water. Poplin recalled the group initially missed the alligator twice before successfully attaching lines.

"Two full-grown men could not, without him even fighting us, could not pick him up off the bottom," Poplin said. "It took three people to raise him just to get him off the bottom before we could do something with him.".
