Naples Police Find $3.6M Hidden in Walls, Arrest 34

Italian authorities on Tuesday announced the discovery of approximately $3.6 million in cash hidden within the walls, furniture and floors of an apartment in Caivano, a municipality in the Naples metropolitan area. The find occurred during a large-scale raid that resulted in 34 arrests.

The cash, totaling €3.2 million and primarily in 50-euro notes, was seized as part of a months-long sting operation led by Neapolitan prosecutor Nicola Gratteri. Police reportedly intercepted communications from incarcerated members of organized crime that relatives had smuggled into prisons.

During the operation, police confiscated €3.2 million in cash and 11 luxury Rolex watches from one home. They also seized weapons and drug-selling paraphernalia.

The 34 arrested individuals allegedly belong to the Angelino crime family. This family had reportedly infiltrated Caivano to such an extent that the local government was placed under judicial administration in 2025. The suspects face charges including association with organized crime, drug trafficking, extortion and possession of drugs for sale. The confiscated funds will be directed to Italy's “Justice Fund,” which supports victims of organized crime.
