Wind Gusts Up to 40 MPH Expected in Jackson County Until 9 PM CDT

Residents in Northern and Southern Jackson County should monitor weather conditions closely as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in New Orleans, LA, effective until 9:00 PM CDT tonight, September 20, 2026. This alert indicates strong thunderstorms are moving west at 15 mph.

Radar data at 8:21 PM CDT identified an area of strong thunderstorms extending from 25 miles north of Hurley to 10 miles east of Big Point, or from 37 miles north of Escatawpa to 15 miles northeast of Escatawpa. The primary hazard is wind gusts of up to 40 mph, which could result in downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around.

Areas expected to be impacted include Moss Point, Escatawpa, Big Point, Wade, Hurley, and Helena. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring with these storms. The NWS advises seeking safe shelter inside a building or vehicle, as lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.
