Rev. FitzGerald Calls Oakland Park to Reconnect with Earth
Staff Writer
May 28, 2026
Rev. T. J. FitzGerald urged Oakland Park residents to view Earth as a living world rather than a collection of resources in a sermon delivered April 19, 2026.
Titled "Our Rock and Our Salvation," the sermon drew on ideas from theologian Thomas Berry and poet Maya Angelou to argue for listening, caring, and human reconnection. FitzGerald reflected on the vastness of the universe and the sounds of daily life to underscore humanity's rare place within it.
The First Unitarian Church of Dallas originally presented the sermon, titled "Reimagining and Remaking: Our Rock and Our Salvation."
