Larry Spencer Whitmire, 74, Dies in Oakland Park

Larry Spencer Whitmire, a longtime Oakland Park resident, died at 74. Whitmire, known for his independent spirit and care for neighborhood cats, leaves a legacy spanning four generations of family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathy. His parents, Robert and Shirley Whitmire, and siblings Karen and Rick preceded him in death. He also leaves his brother Rod, son Chris, and son Scott and Tara, along with grandchildren Tara (Jon), Austin, and Tyler, and great-grandson Addison.

Whitmire found quiet contentment in his rocker recliner with the television remote. He ensured neighborhood cats received food and care. His family remembered his fiercely independent nature and commitment to living life on his own terms.
