Mommy & Me

Mommy & Me (walking – age 3) This class is a great introduction to the world of dance and music! It focuses on rhythm, movement, balance, and coordination skills in a fun and positive environment. This class is designed to be taken with a parent and is a great bonding experience! Creative Movement (ages 3-4) This class focuses on rhythm, movement, balance, and coordination skills in a fun and positive environment! Dancers will gain confidence as they learn basic motor skills and dance steps. Class activities include creative expression, pre-ballet, and story-telling through movement. Pre-Ballet (ages 4-5) This class introduces dancers to the fundamentals of ballet technique in a fun and engaging way! Dancers will learn basic ballet vocabulary, develop coordination skills, and explore musicality. Class activities include barre work, center work, and creative movement. Ballet (ages 6+) Ballet is the foundation for all dance forms! In this class, dancers will learn proper technique, alignment, and terminology. Ballet classes focus on barre work, center work, and across-the-floor combinations to develop strength, flexibility, and artistry. Ballet is offered at various levels to accommodate dancers of all ages and abilities. Pointe (Teacher Placement Only) Pointe class is for advanced ballet students who have demonstrated the strength and technique necessary to dance en pointe. This class focuses on pointe work, including barre work, center work, and variations. Dancers will develop strength, balance, and artistry while dancing en pointe. *Placement in this class is at the discretion of the instructor.* Jazz (ages 6+) Jazz is a high-energy dance style that combines elements of ballet, hip-hop, and modern dance. In this class, dancers will learn a variety of jazz techniques, including isolations, turns, and jumps. Jazz classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination while exploring different styles of jazz dance. Tap (ages 6+) Tap is a rhythmic dance style that focuses on creating sound with the feet. In this class, dancers will learn tap vocabulary, rhythms, and combinations. Tap classes focus on developing coordination, musicality, and rhythm while exploring different styles of tap dance. Hip Hop (ages 6+) Hip Hop is a high-energy dance style that combines elements of jazz, funk, and street dance. In this class, dancers will learn a variety of hip hop techniques, including isolations, grooves, and freestyle. Hip Hop classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination while exploring different styles of hip hop dance. Lyrical (ages 8+) Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance to create expressive and emotional movement. In this class, dancers will learn to connect with the music and express their emotions through dance. Lyrical classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, and artistry while exploring different styles of lyrical dance. Contemporary (ages 8+) Contemporary dance is a fluid and expressive dance style that combines elements of ballet, jazz, and modern dance. In this class, dancers will learn to explore movement quality, improvisation, and choreography. Contemporary classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, and artistry while exploring different styles of contemporary dance. Acro (ages 6+) Acro dance combines elements of dance and acrobatics to create exciting and dynamic movement. In this class, dancers will learn basic acrobatic skills, such as handstands, cartwheels, and backbends. Acro classes focus on developing strength, flexibility, and coordination while exploring different styles of acro dance. Musical Theatre (ages 6+) Musical Theatre combines elements of singing, acting, and dancing to create a dynamic and engaging performance. In this class, students will learn vocal techniques, acting skills, and dance choreography from popular Broadway musicals. Musical Theatre classes focus on developing confidence, creativity, and performance skills. Turns & Leaps (ages 8+) This class is designed to improve dancers’ technique in turns and leaps. Dancers will work on developing proper alignment, strength, and flexibility to execute a variety of turns and leaps with precision and control. This class is recommended for dancers who are looking to take their technique to the next level! Conditioning for Dancers (ages 10+) This class is designed to improve dancers’ strength, flexibility, and endurance. Dancers will work on exercises that target specific muscle groups used in dance, as well as exercises that improve cardiovascular health. This class is recommended for dancers who are looking to improve their overall fitness and performance!

Penney Retirement Community is a special place where people come from around the world to choose PRC as their “Home”. There is no place like it, where creativity and care are the hallmarks of this dynamic Christian community. The PRC Annual Arts & Crafts Festival/Fair displays include an amazing variety of items for all ages, pocketbooks and tastes. Themed “From the Heart” the Fair is held the first weekend in November. The Fair will be held this year on Friday Nov. 2 from 10 – 4 p.m. and Saturday Nov. 3 from 10 – 2 p.m.   Whether you come to Christmas Shop or to check out the community there will be something to pique your interest. From the Art Studio & Frame Shop next door to the Resale Shop; the Penney Handweavers & Fabric Arts talent at the Hub (right near the model Railroad station); the Arts, Crafts & Plants Marketplace in the Barrows Block or “Dan the Produce” man under the big Oak Tree, you will find an amazing array of items ranging from fine art to the extremely practical to view or to purchase. Featured Artists this year are Tom Kocourek, Natural edge furniture & Woodcraft; Laurie Latour, Specialty Ink Artist; and Linda McInturff, Illustrator and Portraitist. Tom will be housed in the Woodshop, Laurie at the Art Studio on Caroline and Linda in the Commons Lobby on Wilbank Avenue. You are welcome to come to learn, view and/or shop as each Artist will have signed specialty items for sale. At all four corners of the Fair Square you will find something different. Handmade items abound. A wide variety of items are for sale, stained glass, plants, mosaics, wood turnings, woodcraft and furniture, refurbished items, craft items, fabric arts, fine arts, handmade pieces, Fair Trade/Koinonia Chocolates, Coffee and Teas and much more. The outdoor cafe will feature old fashioned grilled hotdogs and hamburgers both days from 11:30 -1:30 while the Coffee Shop offers a free cup of good coffee with a cinnamon roll or piece of pie as a break time treat outside of those hours. The Arts & Crafts Fair is a not only a great place to Christmas shop but a great opportunity to see “Arts & Crafts” in action. You won’t want to miss our new “Kids Korner”, a special place for “grands” both kids and parents, to shop or try an activity. Items found there are designed to appeal to your favorite youngsters, and perhaps the young at heart as well. We hope to see you that weekend! Plentiful parking is free and the Fair is located just off of the intersection of Hwy 16 and 218 with Lewis Avenue or Wilbank Avenue as the entry point. Major credit cards are accepted.
