A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Noatak Valley and South Slopes of the Western Brooks Range. The National Weather Service in Fairbanks reports that heavy snow is expected, with total accumulations of 10 to 14 inches possible in elevated areas. Winds are also a concern, with occasional gusts reaching up to 45 mph.

The warning is in effect from October 9 at 12:03 PM AKDT until October 10 at 10:00 AM AKDT. Residents in the affected areas should prepare for very difficult travel conditions. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, making roadways hazardous.

If travel is unavoidable during this period, the National Weather Service advises carrying an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
