Residents in the Noatak Valley and South Slopes of the Western Brooks Range should prepare for a Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight tonight, October 8, until 10:00 AM AKDT on Saturday, October 10. The National Weather Service (NWS) Fairbanks has issued this warning, indicating severe conditions are expected.

Heavy snow is anticipated, with total accumulations reaching 10 to 14 inches in higher elevations. Additionally, winds are forecast to gust as high as 45 mph. These conditions are expected to make travel very difficult, with blowing snow significantly reducing visibility.

If travel is unavoidable during this period, the NWS advises carrying an extra flashlight, food, and water. These supplies are crucial in case of an emergency or unexpected delays.
