Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Tuscaloosa: Prepare for High Winds, Flooding

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Tuscaloosa, with residents urged to prepare for high winds up to 55 mph and significant flooding, according to NWS Birmingham AL.

Tuscaloosa residents are under a Tropical Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL today, October 9, at 10:17 AM CDT. This means tropical storm-force winds are expected within the area within the next 36 hours. The warning is effective until 6:30 PM UTC today.

Immediate action is advised. Plan for hazardous winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Secure all property as soon as possible, and move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, broken tree limbs, and some impassable roads due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Tuscaloosa, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, potentially higher in some areas. Emergency plans should account for moderate flooding, with evacuations and rescues possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to expanded areas of inundation on streets and underpasses.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. Stay informed by monitoring official weather updates. For more information and hurricane preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
