Wrangell residents will head to the polls on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, for the Regular Local Election. Voters will decide on several key Borough Official positions, including Borough Mayor, Borough Assembly, School Board, and Port Commission.

The election will fill one two-year term for Borough Mayor, two three-year terms for Borough Assembly, one three-year term for the School Board, and two Port Commission positions—one for a three-year term and another for a two-year unexpired term. These positions directly impact the governance and future direction of the City and Borough of Wrangell.

Polls will open at 8:00 a.m. on election day and close at 8:00 p.m. All qualified voters must cast their ballot at the designated Wrangell Precinct, located at the James & Elsie Nolan Center, within the borough boundaries.

Absentee voting for the Regular Borough Election began on Monday, September 21, 2026, at City Hall, running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Qualified voters can cast an absentee ballot in person until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026. For those unable to vote absentee in person, applications to have ballots mailed, emailed, or faxed are available at the Borough Clerk's Office.

Individuals wishing to run as write-in candidates must file a letter of intent with the borough clerk by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026. Write-in votes for candidates who do not file this letter will not be counted. Voters must write the candidate's name exactly as it appears on the filed letter of intent and mark the oval next to it; stickers are not permitted.

Additionally, the City is seeking Letters of Interest for several board and committee vacancies. These include one three-year term on the Planning & Zoning Commission, two three-year terms on the Wrangell Convention & Visitors Bureau, and two three-year terms on the Economic Development Committee. The deadline for submitting Letters of Interest to the Office of the Borough Clerk is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026. Appointments for these positions will occur at the Regular Assembly meeting on October 13, 2026. Residents can obtain copies of the code chapter for these boards and commissions from the Borough Clerk's Office or view them on the City's website at www.wrangell.com.
