A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Clay and Union Counties in South Dakota, effective immediately until 10:45 PM CDT tonight, October 8, 2026.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Sioux Falls SD reports that a severe thunderstorm was located near Union Grove State Park, approximately 10 miles south of Beresford, at 10:34 PM CDT. This storm is moving southeast at 20 mph.
Residents in the affected areas should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. The primary hazard with this storm is ping pong ball size hail, which can cause injury to people and animals outdoors. Damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles is also expected.
The storm is anticipated to be near Union Grove State Park around 10:35 PM CDT and Alcester around 10:40 PM CDT. This warning is based on radar indications.
