NORTH PALM BEACH, FL – The North Palm Beach Fire Department is reminding residents of essential safety measures for a fun and injury-free Halloween. The department issued recommendations covering trick-or-treating, costumes and fireworks for families celebrating throughout the village.
For trick-or-treating, the Fire Department stresses adult supervision for young children. Children should wear light-colored costumes with reflective tape and carry flashlights or glow sticks to improve visibility for motorists. Costumes should fit properly to prevent tripping, and face paint is recommended over masks that obstruct vision. Families should plan routes along well-lit streets and only approach homes with their porch lights on. Inspect all candy for tampering before consumption, discarding any unwrapped or suspicious items.
Costume material and fit are also key safety points. The Fire Department advises selecting flame-resistant materials. If costumes are not flame-resistant, keep them away from open flames like candles, fireplaces and bonfires. Ensure costumes are the correct size to prevent trips or entanglement.
Regarding fireworks, the Fire Department emphasizes adherence to all local ordinances, noting that many areas permit only professional displays. If fireworks are legal and used, a responsible adult must handle them, and spectators should maintain a safe distance. Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
The North Palm Beach Fire Department encourages responsible Halloween celebrations and urges residents to prioritize safety.
