The School District of Lee County has filed for impasse in contract negotiations with the Teachers Association of Lee County (TALC). The district stated the decision followed five months of discussions focused on compensation. District officials believe further bargaining sessions will not yield substantive progress from TALC and that declaring an impasse will allow potential pay increases to reach teachers sooner.
A neutral, third-party mediator will now facilitate an agreement between the district and TALC. Negotiations began early this year, with compensation emerging as the central point of contention. The Teachers Association of Lee County has not yet formally responded to the district's filing.
The state will appoint a mediator who will work with both parties to address outstanding issues, particularly teacher salaries and benefits.
