Elko Jury Duty Phone Scam Warning | Local Alert

Staff Writer

Scammers Target Elko Residents With Fake Jury Duty Calls

The Elko County Clerk's Office is warning residents about phone scams in which callers demand payment for missed jury duty.

Scammers claim recipients missed jury service and offer to collect fines over the phone or at the Sheriff's Office. The Clerk's Office does not make such calls.

Missed jury duty cases follow a formal process. A judge issues a Show Cause letter requiring the recipient to appear in court. Only the judge decides whether to assess a fine or fee.

If a fine is imposed, payment goes directly to the Elko County Clerk's Office at the courthouse in downtown Elko. The office does not collect payments by phone or through the Sheriff's Office.

Residents who receive these calls should not provide personal information or send money. Contact the Elko County Clerk's Office at 775-753-4600 to verify any official communication about jury duty.
